Month by month
Amboseli in November
November brings the short rains back to Amboseli. The dust settles, the herds spread out onto the ranches, the swamps fill with migrant birds, and the three lodges that publish their seasons each call the month something different.
If you only want the answer
November brings about 47 mm of rain, the second-wettest month after April, with 26.5°C days. Mammal viewing drops as the herds disperse, but the birding is at its best. Lodge pricing splits three ways: low season at Tawi, mid season at Tortilis ($491 per person sharing) and high season at Ol Tukai ($580 per double room).
Amboseli weather in November: the short rains
November averages 26.5°C in the afternoon and 17.9°C at night, with about 47 mm of rain, an approximate figure scaled to the station's measured annual mean and the second-highest monthly total after April. The baboon project's records start the short wet season in November, and KWS puts one of the year's two rainfall peaks in November and December.
Kilimanjaro is among its cloudiest, with a clear dawn summit on about one morning in seven on modelled data. Expert Africa notes, though, that the summit's heaviest snow falls in November and early December, so the views you do get are the whitest of the year.
Migrants on the swamps, herds on the move
From October to December the local birds are joined by migrants such as European storks, and the Palearctic waders settle in until March, so November is a month for birders. Over 400 species are recorded in the park, and 503 across the wider ecosystem.
The mammals spread out. Most of the park's large mammals rely on the surrounding group ranches for wet-season grazing, and lions normally leave the park in the wet season, so expect fewer animals per drive than in October.
Three lodges, three seasons
No month splits the lodges more. Tawi Lodge's bands price November as low season, Tortilis Camp as mid season at $491 per person sharing, and Ol Tukai Lodge, inside the park, as high season at $580 per double room on full board. Porini Amboseli Camp drops to $585 per person sharing from 1 November to 19 December 2026.
Flights thin out. Safarilink's low season runs from 1 November to 15 December, so only its 07:15 flight from Wilson operates, and Airkenya's Wilson to Arusha service does not fly over the same dates. Park fees stay at $90 per non-resident adult per 24 hours.
